KIRA

The day that Kira was picked up from Blount County Animal Shelter, we thought that we were getting a 3-month old deaf puppy. When we arrived at the shelter they also told us that they thought she was partially blind. Five days later, without any apparent cause (at the time), she started to hyper-salivate, became neurologic, was running into walls and seemed to be completely blind. So she was rushed to the Animal Emergency where we did diagnostics and did not find anything suspicious. She was left there for monitoring and towards the end of the day seemed to be back to herself and the vet said that she could go home. About halfway to the ER, I received a call that she had become neurologic again and that since it was after feeding, that they suspected a portosystemic shunt. Her Bile Acids were tested and were over 250 (normal is <10). X-rays also showed a small liver. Her nuclear scintigraphy scan at UTK Vet School confirmed the shunt as well. Pending the results, she will most likely have the shunt repaired. As of right now, her vet bills are totally over $700.00 and we will be looking at another $3,000.00 for her surgery and post-op follow ups and bloodwork.  ON OUR WEBSITE AT:

P. Willy in her favorite dress!

P. Willy (aka Baby Jane) was held at an animal shelter over a week after being attacked by another dog before they would relinquish her to us. She went straight from the shelter to our vet where she was sedated in order to assess the damage done to her face. Her entire muzzle was completely macerated and covered with puncture wounds. She also has a puncture wound to her chest. She was ridden with fleas and had flea dermatitis. P.Willy also sustained an eye injury which will require it to be removed. She has also had four grand mal seizures due to an unknown cause. She is also deaf. Despite everything that she has gone through P.Willy is the sweetest, most affectionate dog. She loves to be held and would do best in a home with someone that is retired or does not work. She would also do best in a home with no other dogs or a dog that is small like her. She is currently in foster with a min pin and loves her. P.Willy has not been spayed yet, but will be when her eye is removed.

****How did she get the name P.Willy??? Her foster dad did not overly enthusiastic about having her when she first arrived and then one night at dinner they decided to name her. Her foster mom and dad both put names in a hat and his name was drawn. Her foster mom said that since her foster dad cared enough to name her then the name would stay, so thats how she got her name.
